Ampersand redefines the student experience at Emory & Henry College through which students connect what they care about to what they are learning, then design and implement projects that result in positive change to our world. The Ampersand advantage will make Emory & Henry a magnet for bright, motivated and compassionate students, and will provide a significant competitive edge for graduates with prospective employers and graduate schools.

Emory & Henry is nationally known for the quality of its professors who purposefully mentor students. Through Ascend, the College will strengthen programs and faculty development and provide for future needs and greater access through scholarship support.

4Living-Learning Environment; a Growth Agenda, $55 million

Facilities that promote interaction, innovation and reflection matter now more than ever. Through its recent initiatives to renew its infrastructure, the College attracting students to its revamped spaces for teaching, learning and doing. The development of the Emory & Henry School of Health Sciences and associated campus in Marion, Virginia, constitutes the greatest undertaking in the history of the College, while the renovation and expansion of main campus facilities are essential to Emory & Henry’s future.

5Operations, $9 million

Daily operating funds span the gap between the needs of the day and future growth of our endowment. Support for operations is critical during a comprehensive campaign when energies are also focused on building a foundation for the College’s future growth.

THE CAMPAIGN FOR NEW HEIGHTS, is moving to implement bold initiatives that will lift the College to new levels of achievement and prominence:
  • Further augment and infuse the College’s esteemed liberal arts program with an innovative, experiential approach — Ampersand — that connects learning with doing across the student experience.
  • Create and develop the Emory & Henry College School of Health Sciences, preparing highly skilled professionals to provide quality health care while engaging with their communities in leadership and service.
  • Re-energize the Appalachian Center for Civic Life and create the Civic Innovation Institute.
  • Enhance the College’s array of living and learning programs, including Honors, International Education and the Inclusion and Dialogue Center.
  • Transform Emory & Henry facilities and infrastructure to create a vibrant and engaging living and learning environment.
  • Substantially increase the endowment and other vital philanthropic support for faculty and student life, a strong and growing intercollegiate athletic program and meaningful alumni engagement.
